Over several decades, driven by various aspects of globalisation and economic development, supply chains have become increasingly distributed and internationalised. This has brought many benefits, ranging from economic efficiencies to local infrastructural development. At the same time, dependency on global supply chains brings significant risks in terms of supply disruption.

In the context of rising insecurity, King’s College London (KCL) has partnered with ISIS Malaysia on a three-month joint research project to study the implications of geopolitical crisis on supply chain resilience. This project will culminate in a 6,000-word report, which will feature a case study of Malaysia’s semiconductor industry to situate local concerns in broader regional and international debates around supply chain security.

As part of the project, a workshop will be held to present a draft of the report and facilitate discussions with local stakeholders from the public, private, academic and think-tank sectors.

The workshop seeks to achieve the following:

  1. Provide Malaysian policymakers with empirically grounded recommendations for strengthening supply chain resilience in the face of emerging geopolitical uncertainties.
  2. Share key findings and solicit feedback from local stakeholders to refine the final draft of the report.
  3. Establish a foundation for a regional network focused on supply chain security, risk mitigation and development of Malaysia’s semiconductor industry.
  4. Facilitate dialogue between policymakers, industry leaders and researchers to enhance understanding and collaboration on supply chain security.
