Why Aren’t There More Women Making Decisions?

This forum will explore how governments and societies can ensure greater women’s representation at higher levels of political leadership in the United States, Malaysia and the world. Why does the glass ceiling for women in politics persist? How can the change in domestic US politics influence global change in gender inequality? What kinds of structures and incentives need to be in place to propel more women to leadership positions in Malaysia and the United States? How could US and Malaysia continue to work together in promoting policy to empower women’s rights/issues? Speakers will also discuss the Biden-Harris administration’s re-establishment of the Gender Office and the Gender Policy Council in the United States, and specifically examine how it could be employed to promote global gender equality. This forum is being held in conjunction with International Women’s Day 2021.
