    Overview:

The ASM report, “Transforming the Water Sector: National Integrated Water Resources Management Plan (NIWRMP) – Strategies and Road Map”, highlighted issues faced by the Malaysian water sector. These issues included: stress in regional water supply; seasonal and urban flooding; pollution of water sources in lakes and rivers; environmental degradation from large-scale land development; urbanisation and industrialisation; fragmented management and conflict among sub-sectors; and impending climate change impacts. The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MEA), too, recognised the massive costs in the development of the water sectors from previous Malaysia Plans. The MEA then embarked on their own transformation of the water sector for the 12th Malaysia Plan to ensure a sustainable water security and dynamic water sector. The presentation will focus on the integrated water resources management (IWRM) embedded potentials in both the ASM and MEA initiatives.
