Towards a resilient cyberspace in Southeast Asia

Cyber security is often seen as a one-time investment, with approaches to securing systems left to oversight mechanisms that are sporadic and intermittent. Malaysia’s experience with data breaches shows that threats are becoming sophisticated. For instance, in November 2022, AirAsia was hit by ransomware that compromised the personal information of five million passengers. The incident highlighted how criminal software enables organised criminal behaviour. Further, such data breaches occur because of lapses in processes, which could leave vulnerabilities undiscovered. Cyber resilience is a necessary concept for the management of cyber security, especially on adopting approaches that could address developing threats.

In collaboration with the Institute of Strategic & International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia, the Tech for Good Institute (TFGI) invite you to our research dialogue on Towards a resilient cyberspace in Southeast Asia.

The session features a presentation by Keith Detros, programme lead at TFGI, who will introduce a conceptual framework on cyber resilience, offer an overview of cyber resilience in the region and discuss actionable recommendations from academics, policymakers and businesses. The session will end with a panel discussion on Improving cyber resilience in Malaysia.

TFGI is a non-profit organisation founded by Grab in 2021 to encourage conversations and dialogue on how to leverage on the promise of technology and the digital economy to enable sustainable, equitable and inclusive growth for Southeast Asia.
