The Japan Economic Foundation (JEF) inaugurated the first Asia-Pacific Forum (APF) in 2003 with the co-sponsorship of Singapore Institute of International Affairs (SIIA). The objective of APF is to contribute to the long-term and sustainable economic growth of the Asia-Pacific region through discussions and exchanges of information and insights among experts. Since then, the APF has become an annual event and is set to conduct its 18th meeting this year.

The APF highlights the most urgent issues in the region as topics for the annual forum. These are discussed by experts from 14 countries/region whose participating organizations take turns to co-host the annual event with JEF. The main theme for this year “The Future of the Asia-Pacific Economies Beyond 2020 – How can the Asia-Pacific Region achieve a better globalization in coping with rising populism and emerging inequality?”
