Overview
The scenarios team in Shell has existed for over 40 years, and business leaders in Shell have applied scenario approaches as a core component of the company’s strategic thinking. Scenarios continue to be relevant in helping Shell gain a deeper understanding of the external environment and of global energy trends, as they did over four decades ago.
Scenarios have, however, been used over the years not just to look at energy trends, but also geopolitical trends, as geopolitics has a fundamental impact on energy supply and demand. This presentation will look at how Shell has used scenarios to get a holistic view of the future, not only in energy, but also in geopolitics, and the value derived from geopolitical scenarios as a strategic management tool in making sense of the business environment that companies face.
