Ms. Wan Portia Hamzah Wan Portia Hamzah, Senior Analyst, joined ISIS Malaysia in 1991. She has extensive experience in environmental and Science and Technology policy formulation. In the area of Research and Development management, she has served in several national, regional and Commonwealth Working Groups relating to science and technology. Her early collaborative effort with several individuals came out with a book “Marine Heritage of Malaysia” commissioned by PETRONAS. In ISIS, her research initially focused on several issues namely: development of science and technology indicators, sustainable development and implications for governance in the Asia-Pacific region, and IT infrastructure and governance in the information age. Wan Portia was actively involved in the smart partnership concept and later helped to organise and facilitate the deliberations in the First Langkawi International Dialogue (LID). She was also part of the ISIS Housing Study Team and was involved in the National Brains Trust on Education. In 1999, Wan Portia was invited to the Malaysia-Colorado Cleaner Production Network Council and in 2002 together with experts from Colorado, Malaysia and Vietnam came out with a framework outlining Vietnam’s cleaner development solutions. Currently, she is looking into Research and Development requirements, technology trends as well as environmental issues around the region. She is also organising the Malaysia International Visitors’ Programme. Wan Portia holds a BSc. (Hons) from USM, a Postgraduate Diploma with Distinction in Marine Pollution Chemistry from the University of Liverpool, a Masters degree in Structure and Organisation of Science and Technology from the University of Manchester and Diplome de Langue Francaise, Paris. |
