Dr.
Stephen Leong has been Assistant Director-General, Institute of
Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia since 1995. A
graduate of the University of Illinois (B.A., 1960), University of
California at Berkeley (M.A., 1962), and University of California at
Los Angeles (Ph.D, 1976), Dr. Leong previously had a long academic
career in University of Malaya. He joined ISIS Malaysia as Senior
Fellow and Director, Centre for Japan Studies in 1992 after having
been involved in ISIS activities since 1984. He is also Co-Director
of ISIS Malaysia’s Centre for International Dialogue;
Director-General of the Malaysian National Committee for Pacific
Economic Cooperation (MANCPEC); Secretary-General, Network for East
Asian Think-tanks (NEAT) Malaysia; and member of the Executive
Committee, Malaysia-Japan Economic Association as well as of the
Malaysian Committee, Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia
Pacific (CSCAP).
