The Malaysia International Visitors Programme was instituted in 2002. Its objectives are:

To promote international peace, understanding and cooperation.

To raise awareness and understanding of Malaysia and its policies among international media, intellectuals, business/economics leaders and others in the fields of culture, administration and politics.

To promote Malaysia as an attractive venue for investment and travel, and as a partner for trade.

The programmes involve meetings and discussions with prominent individuals from relevant private and public sector agencies in Malaysia, as well as visits to the places of interest. They also include some recreation time for the visitors.
